This year Boyd has changed the way students will be issued tardies. Teachers have to be responsible for having their doors locked and closed when the bell rings. Students who are then late for class will need to go to the closest office and get a pass back to class. This policy will take the late students longer to get to class and possible cause a greater loss of instructional time.
“This wastes more time that students could be in class and not walking to the office to get a pass back to class because they were late,” said sophomore, Phoebe Walters.
For the freshmen, and other students who weren’t at Boyd last year, it’s an adjustment from their former middle school their rule of three free tardies before you had to serve a detention.
“This policy means more tardies and it is more time out of class, they should have stuck with the old one,” said freshman Sarah Traynham.
This policy could either cause students not to be late for class or it won’t.
“I don’t think its better for the students because it could cause more students to be late,” Walters said.
The change this year aimed to create a more strict policy and prevent repeated violations. Teachers and students will both have follow the new procedures for tardies since it is being enforced strictly amongst everyone.
“I like the school but there are so many forms of things [like the new tardy policy], and more class time will wasted for everyone,” Traynham said.
