Auditions for the McKinney Boyd Broadway Broncos performance of “Seussical the Musical” were held this week for the November debut. “Seussical” is a musical blend of Dr. Seuss’s stories, and features many classic characters such as Horton the Elephant, The Grinch, The Cat in the Hat, and Sam-I-Am.
Along with Vicki Kirkley and Mandy Richardson, Dr. John Norien was added to the judging table. Norien hails from New York and is a classically trained cellist with a doctorate in music from the University of North Texas. He began playing the cello at eight and his vocal performance career started at the age of six.
“I can’t think of a time I wasn’t doing music,” he said.
“Seussical” may be in its early stages but “it’s a production I’m really looking forward to” he said. Norien had positive things to say about the Broadway Bronco program as well “the kids are treated as professionals [at Boyd]”. He offered advice for students interested in auditioning for another Boyd show “just come out and try” he said “you will never be laughed off any stage.”
