Dear Broncos,

By the time this edition is in your hands, all of my college applications will be out of mine.

It’s a strange feeling. Around this time last year, I was so overwhelmed by my own crushing expectations. But I grew. I became adjusted to the idea of failure and learned the importance of getting back up.

Yet my fear of rejection remains an active part of my imagination. Every day, I construct some form of alternate reality of my future and ask myself questions. What would my life be like at X college or Y university? What would I be like? Who would I become?

I’m still not so sure.

I like to think I’ll be in D.C., New York or some big city, majoring in journalism and eating Ethiopian food almost every day. Perhaps I’ll be studying abroad in Argentina or Egypt. Maybe I’ll be interning at the Washington Post.

I feel as if my whole future all depends on these letters from strangers miles and miles away.

Yes, I’m aware there are more taxing issues in this world, but in no way did I expect how much of a toll the college application process would take on me. The constant worry and anxiety of not knowing where I’ll go still plagues me. It eats at my core. I don’t think I can survive until January to await the outcome of my decisions, let alone March.

But it doesn’t really matter where I go because I know I’ll be unstoppable in whatever I do and wherever I go. I plan to be just as determined as I am now. I don’t think that’s a trait that ever really goes away.

To quote “Hamilton:” there’s a million things I haven’t done, but just you wait.

Sincerely,

Izzie Ramirez
Editor-in-Chief
